A Day in the Life (pt3) LUCY

A Day in the Life: Meet the Residents of Niiralan Tila

Lucy

Lucy is the oddball of our goats. Childhood best friend of Lumi, our goats have all been raised together and came from the same farm. When we first met them we had only taken Inari and Lumi, available was also Lucy and her mother and father. Although we were not looking for a male goat at the time we did not want to break up a family so we had left the three. But as fate would have it, a week later we received a call that Lucy’s mother was not being kind to her so it was better to separate them and the farmer asked if we would want to take her. So we did. It was a good thing too, she and her best friend could be together again and Lucy would not feel alone.

Unsure if it is because of the relationship she had with her mother, but Lucy is always more shy than the others. Usually found standing on the food cage to watch the people that come to visit, observing with her curious eyes. When outside she sticks close to Lumi but she has also found companionship with the sheeps as well. Specifically Freya who seems to have taken the role of loving mother of Lucy. Sometimes you have to wonder if Lucy sees herself as a sheep or a goat.

Some of Lucy’s favorite things is eating banana peels, apple tree leaves, dandelions and kiwi peels. She is happy as well when she gets to climb the big rocks with her best friend and go through the cement tunnels on the farm.

A Day in the Life (pt2) LUMI

A Day in the Life: Meet the Residents of Niiralan Tila

Lumi

The daughter of Inari, has shown she is growing to be like her mother in kindness and smarts. Although she has been weened from her mother for some time now, she is always still always wanting to be close to her. Whenever it is milking time Lumi always runs to be with her mother on the milk stand; to eat breakfast and dinner with her. And sometimes she tries to sneak some milk from her mother like old times. She is the braver of the two goat kids, her best friend Lucy is still shy but thanks to Lumi’s help is becoming a little more social each day.

Lumi can always be seen with her mother in and outside the pasture.

Lumi loves to suck on wiggly fingers as it reminds her of her mother and is always welcoming to people. Her favorite treats include dandelions as well and apple tree leaves. Banana peels she leaves to her mother. She loves to jump around on rocks and structures and to try to show that she herself can be tough like her mama but playfully knocking heads with the sheep.

A Day in the Life -- Meet the Residents of Niiralan Tila

 Inari

Inari is the self made boss of this farm and our mama goat. She came to us with her daughter, Lumi. She isn’t afraid in showing who the boss is to her pack but can still show patience to others. When first going to meet her we were surprised how friendly she was, walking right up to us wanting attention. She of course made sure to show who was boss by turning her upper lip at us but made no threats to us as we approached her.

One of the smarter residents here at farm, you can be sure to always see the wheels turning in her head when you look into deep into her eyes, always planning the next move. You may think she is under control and follows the rules but do not let your guard down. When she thinks no one is looking she is quick to leave her pasture to graze on her own, on her own terms, however she wants. She may respect the rules day to day but she likes to remind us once in a while she is her own person.

Inari is milked twice a day, in morning and evening, and on her good days gives close to 2 liters per time. Her milk is used to make toffee here at the farm and bread once in a while, otherwise is given to our pigs so it does not go to waste. Inari is also very friendly and patient to allow guests of the farm to try milking as well if they are interested.

Inari (L) with her daughter Lumi (R)

Some of Inari’s favorite things is to be scratched behind and in between her horns, you can see her doing this on her own using branches and tree trunks, or else the farmers do it for her as well. Inari also loves to eat dandelions and banana peels. She can never get enough of them, and if you give her some she will forever be your friend.
